Know Your Ratings
Always check your vehicle's GVWR, GCWR, and tow rating before selecting an RV. These are found on the driver's door jamb or in your owner's manual.
Account for Payload
Passengers, cargo, fuel, and gear in your tow vehicle reduce your available towing capacity. Plan with a full load in mind, not an empty truck.
Use the Right Hitch
Match your hitch class to your trailer's weight. Fifth wheel and gooseneck hitches offer more stability for heavier loads; weight-distribution hitches keep travel trailers level.
Practice Before You Go
If you're new to towing, practice in an empty parking lot first. Get comfortable with turning, backing up, and braking with weight behind you.
Leave 20% Headroom
Don't tow at 100% of your truck's rated capacity. Keeping 20% in reserve helps your drivetrain on long climbs and gives margin in emergency stops.
